Drone Defense 2 Abilities

Three regular abilities plus one mega ability — what the shop sells and when each slot matters.

Abilities Guide

The original Drone Defense shipped an ability shop as a core vendor. The sequel keeps a version of that system but shrinks it to three regular ability slots and one mega ability you take into a match. This page is the translation layer between the lobby Ability Shop and what actually helps your board.

We do not paste a stolen ability table from the first game. Solver Games has not published a full sequel ability list with cooldowns and damage values. What we can document is how the system works, when abilities apply, and what not to import from the original title.

Ability slots in a match

Inside a match you carry:

  • Three regular abilities — active effects you trigger during waves.
  • One mega ability — a stronger effect with a longer cooldown, charged or selected before the match starts.

Most abilities are bought from the Ability Shop in the lobby using Keybugs or in-match currency. The shop stocks effects that help income, placement speed, survivability, and crowd control. What sits in each of your three slots changes your board’s ceiling on a given map, not just your raw damage output.

How abilities differ from perks

Perks are persistent match buffs you buy once in the lobby and they apply automatically every time you enter a match. Abilities are active effects you choose and trigger during a round. The perks page explains the lobby vendor. This page covers the active slot system.

Mixing them up means you will look for an ability hotkey that does not exist, or expect a perk to trigger mid-wave like an ability. They are two separate systems.

Buy order for a new account

  1. Redeem active codes before spending at the Ability Shop.
  2. Fill your three regular slots with income or placement abilities first — the effects that keep Oil flowing when a wave goes long.
  3. Assign a mega ability that covers your weakest phase: early rush, mid-boss, or final wave cleanup.
  4. Only after those three slots work on Easy, look at damage or control abilities for Medium and Hard.

Do not fill slots with flashy effects that require a fully tiered board to matter. An ability that doubles damage on a tier-1 drone still prints zero extra Oil.

What not to import from the original

Original Drone Defense ability names (Life Support, Donator, Extra Slot, Event Shards, and so on) were tied to place ID 18410505618. The sequel runs on 138884751515999. If a guide references the original ability shop, close the tab. The sequel’s Ability Shop is a separate vendor with sequel-only stock.

When a content creator shows “must-have abilities” for the sequel, check whether the screenshot is from the first game. Fandom pages for the original are still live; they do not become accurate for the sequel just because someone slapped “Drone Defense 2” in the title.

How abilities scale

Abilities bought at low level cost less but provide weaker effects. As you progress and earn more in-match currency, you can repurchase abilities at higher tiers for better numbers. This is separate from unit tiers — abilities have their own upgrade path inside the Ability Shop.

The mega ability does not upgrade in the same way. It is selected before a match and its power is fixed for that run. Choose based on the map and your board’s gaps, not a generic “best mega” ranking.

Co-op and ability sharing

Abilities are per-player. In a 20-player server, each person brings their own three slots and mega. Abilities do not transfer between players. A teammate with strong abilities cannot cast them on your drones or base.

Call your ability roles in co-op chat so three people do not all bring crowd-control abilities while the eco gap goes un-covered.

After Void and Summer events

The 5 September 2026 Void Mode patch and the Summer 2026 event may have added new abilities to the shop. Check the Ability Shop directly after any patch. The updates hub will note new shop additions when confirmed. Do not trust a static screenshot from July as current stock.

The Ability Shop is in the lobby near the Perk Vendor. Look for the icon that matches the in-match ability bar on the bottom of your screen during a round.

Read controls to confirm your exact keybinds, then open the Ability Shop and buy the three effects that cover your weakest phase on Easy before you queue another round.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for codes, tiers, maps, and the Summer Event.

How many ability slots does Drone Defense 2 have?

Three regular ability slots and one mega ability per match. The mega is selected before a round; the three regular abilities trigger during it.

Are abilities the same as perks?

No. Perks auto-apply to every match you enter. Abilities are manually triggered during a round and chosen from the Ability Shop.

Can I use original Drone Defense ability guides for the sequel?

No. The sequel runs on a different place ID with a separate Ability Shop. Original ability names do not transfer.

Do abilities share between co-op players?

No. Each of the up to 20 players in a server brings their own three slots and mega. Abilities affect only the player who activates them.
