Co-op Guide

Drone Defense 2 runs up to 20 players per server on Roblox. Elevators drop your team into maps with scaled or fixed enemy counts depending on the mode. You can solo-queue any map, but Hard and Void are where co-op actually changes the game: a coordinated duo on Hard hits Battery spikes faster than a solo player ever could, and Void Mode is documented as nearly impossible to solo in its post-September-2026 rework state.

This guide covers server structure, role call, and the mistakes that make co-op harder than solo.

Server basics

  • Servers host up to 20 players in a shared lobby with elevators into matches.
  • Match elevators vote difficulty before launch. The lobby does not wait for all 20 — it launches with whoever is ready.
  • All players see the same map, path, and waves. Enemy HP does not scale linearly with player count on standard modes.
  • Co-op does not share perks, ability slots, unit tiers, or Keybugs. Your inventory is yours.

Role call before you queue

The most common co-op mistake is five players bringing the same DPS unit while the eco slot stays empty. Before you hit the elevator:

  1. One eco — the player with the best Oil-printing drone. Do not compete for this role.
  2. One to two lane holders — players with reliable hold units that cover the longest path segments.
  3. One to two backline — clean-up and boss damage once Oil exists.
  4. Flex — players with quest units, event faces, or under-tiered legendaries they are still leveling.

On Hard and above, you want exactly three roles covered. On Easy and Medium, two players can handle all three if both are properly tiered.

Communication in practice

The game has no built-in role assignment system. Use the steps:

  1. Check the lobby for other players’ unit names before you queue. If you see three people with the same DPS unit, swap.
  2. Call your lane in match chat: “eco left” or “holding right” so the next player knows where the gap is.
  3. Do not sell another player’s placed unit. If it is on the board, it is their call.
  4. If someone disconnects, fill their lane before you expand your own.

Discord (discord.gg/dronedefense) has a community that organizes scheduled runs. Jump in there if you want structured Hard clears.

Difficulty scaling in co-op

Easy and Medium have fixed enemy counts. Hard and Void have higher counts that benefit from more players, but also require more coordination. Adding a seventh player to a Hard lobby does not automatically make it easier if that player brings an empty slot or an un-tiered trophy.

Solo players can clear Easy and Medium at their own pace. Hard and Void are where co-op’s role coverage actually matters.

Battery and Keybug farming in co-op

Batteries only pay on wins. A full 20-player Hard clear gives each player the same Battery reward as a duo clear. The difference is time and reliability: a coordinated duo finishes Hard faster and more consistently than a solo player grinding losses.

Keybugs scale with difficulty and wave reached. A loss at wave 14 on Hard still pays more Keybugs than a loss at wave 6 on Easy. Use co-op to push deeper into Hard waves, then bank the Keybugs for tier upgrades.

What co-op does not fix

  • Un-tiered units. A full team of tier-1 legendaries still leaks. Tier discipline matters more than player count.
  • Missing eco. Five backline players with no eco still run out of Oil on wave 9.
  • VIP and gamepasses. Your multiplier is yours. A teammate with VIP does not increase your Battery payout.

After the Void patch

The 5 September 2026 Void Mode rework changed The Abyss to be “nearly impossible to beat by yourself” according to community reports. The Solver Mode refresh also added a new map, enemies, and a tesscyn/entity purchase path via Solver Shards. Hard and Void co-op groups became the standard path for players chasing the Keeper of the Abyss badge.

Join the Discord if you want to organize a Void clear. Solo attempts after the rework are statistically rare successful completions.

Quick co-op checklist

Before the elevator:

  • Do you have eco covered? (If no, swap a DPS for an eco unit.)
  • Do you have at least one lane holder? (If no, your board leaks regardless of DPS.)
  • Is your loadout tiered? (If no, stay on Easy until it is.)
  • Are your three ability slots filled? (If no, buy from the Ability Shop.)
  • Is your mega ability selected? (If no, you enter with a default or empty mega.)

Then queue. The 20-player server is a tool, not a guarantee.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for codes, tiers, maps, and the Summer Event.

How many players can join a Drone Defense 2 server?

Up to 20 players share a server. Matches launch with whoever is ready at the elevator, not the full lobby.

Do co-op players share perks or ability slots?

No. Each player brings their own perks, abilities, unit tiers, and Keybugs. Co-op multiplies your team's coverage, not your personal inventory.

Is Void Mode soloable after the September 2026 rework?

Community reports say the rework made Void nearly impossible to solo. Co-op groups are now the standard path for Keeper of the Abyss badge attempts.

Does co-op increase Battery rewards?

Battery payout depends on winning, not on how many players are in the server. A duo Hard clear pays the same Batteries as a full 20-player clear.
