Getting Started in Drone Defense 2
First lobby, first Easy win, and the Medium solo path without wasting Keybugs.
Drone Defense 2 is Solver Gamesβ Roblox tower defense sequel set in the Murder Drones toybox: 15 placeable drones, match perks, quests, maps, and secrets tagged π£π΄π‘. It is free-to-play, live since 25 October 2025, and running on servers of up to 20 players. You can solo every early mode. You should still treat the lobby like a loadout screen, not a theme park.
This is the day-one guide. Redeem codes before you summon. Then beat Easy, upgrade tiers, and only then copy the Medium video below. If you skip tiers, Medium will feel broken even with a βmetaβ name on the bar.
Lobby in 60 seconds
Join from the official Roblox page. You land in a shared lobby with shops, quest NPCs, and elevators into maps. Look left for CODES! β that is the sequel layout, documented on how to redeem. Currencies you care about in the lobby:
- Keybugs β summon units and buy perks. You get them for finishing rounds even if you lose.
- Batteries β win-only lobby currency.
- Shells β summer-event purse for Ducky N.
- XP / level β titles at 3 / 10 / 25 / 50 / 100 (Worker, Disassembly, Solver, Eldritch, then Nori via Level Road).
Oil is not a lobby currency. It only exists in a match.
Match loop
Enter an elevator, vote a difficulty, ready up. Waves spawn along a path. You spend Oil to place drones and upgrade them. You earn Oil from kills, mini-bosses, bosses, and wave clears. Eco units increase that income. If a leak reaches the base, you lose health; enough leaks and the match is over.
Hotkeys inherited from the series (confirm in your settings if a patch rebound them):
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| 1β5 | Tower / unit hotkeys |
| Q or X | Cancel placement |
| E | Upgrade |
| X | Sell |
| Shift | Sprint in lobby |
| Ctrl | Shift-lock in lobby |
Place economy first, then a reliable lane holder, then a backline. That sentence is the whole beginner skill tree. The loadout planner turns it into a checklist.
First hour plan
- Redeem every active code.
- Summon once with a plan from the beginner loadouts β do not dump all Keybugs if you still lack a perk.
- Queue Easy solo. Learn pathing. Finish the match even if it is ugly; Keybugs still pay on a loss, but Batteries do not.
- After the win, raise tiers on the units that actually dealt damage.
- Do not vote Medium until those units are upgraded. The Roblox description is not flavour text.
- Pick up starter quests (Doll / V / Nori lines live on secrets and quests).
Medium without a carry
The video in the middle of this page is a solo Medium clear. Watch placement order, not just the unit names. Community comments on Medium being βtoo hardβ are usually tier and eco problems, not a missing secret unit. If you still bounce, drop back to Easy with a farming route from farm resources and come back with more Keybugs.
Hard and Void are later problems. Hard is a Battery and Keybug multiplier. Void / The Abyss is gated behind beating the standard ladder and, for the full badge, a keycard path described on maps and difficulties. A 5 September 2026 event listing literally says βThe Abyss awaits you.β Do not queue it on day one.
Perks, not original-game abilities
The sequel sells perks you take into a match. Original Drone Defense used an ability shop with Life Support, Donator, Extra Slot, and friends. Do not buy a guide for those names and assume they still sit on the same vendor. Spend early Keybugs on a perk that helps income or placement, then read the perks note inside secrets after you own a stable lane.
Gamepasses (optional)
- +4 Batteries β 99 Robux
- 1.5x Experience β 79 Robux
- 1.5x Keybugs β 99 Robux
- VIP β 199 Robux (1.2x Keybugs, 1.25x XP, 1.25x Batteries from matches, title, chat tag, elevator teleports, faster sprint)
None of these replace tiers. Buy VIP if you already enjoy the loop; it will not carry a tier-1 defence.
After your first Easy win
Open the drone roster and mark what you own. Check the tier list only after you know your actual bar. Then either farm, quest, or poke the Summer Event with the Shells from codes. That is a complete first session. Anything else is sightseeing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for codes, tiers, maps, and the Summer Event.
Can I play Drone Defense 2 solo?
Yes. Servers hold up to 20 people, but elevators support solo queues. The Medium video on this page is a solo clear.
Why am I broke on Oil in every match?
You are placing DPS before eco, or you never upgrade the eco unit. Oil only comes from kills and waves. Read farm resources after this page.
Do I need Robux to beat Easy?
No. Codes plus a tiered starter loadout are enough. Gamepasses only speed the grind.
What difficulty should I vote after Easy?
Medium, after you upgrade tiers. Hard waits until your loadout can hold leaks without panic-selling.
