Drone Defense 2 Oil, Keybugs, Batteries, Shells
Four wallets, four rules — stop farming the one you are not missing.
If you only remember one thing about Drone Defense 2, remember which wallet you are looking at. The sequel uses four currencies that look similar in a yellow-and-black lobby and behave nothing alike.
This page is the dictionary. Farm resources is the grind. Codes are the one-time dump. Upgrade tiers is where most of it should go.
Oil
Where: in a match only. How you get it: killing enemies, mini-bosses, bosses, and clearing waves. Eco units increase the rate. How you spend it: placing drones and pressing E to upgrade them. How you do not get it: codes, Robux shops, or the lobby.
If you are “broke” while the lobby shows a huge number, that number is not Oil. Leave the match and look at the icon again.
Keybugs
Where: lobby. How you get it: finishing a round, including losses, with higher difficulties paying more. Codes SECRET_01 (100) and Release (150) dump a starter pile. The 1.5x Keybugs gamepass and VIP’s 1.2x Keybugs multiply match gains, not code grants. How you spend it: summoning drones and buying perks.
Keybugs are the reason you can lose a Hard on purpose if you already reached late waves and you needed summons more than Batteries. They are also the reason a five-minute Easy can beat a two-minute instant-death Hard.
Batteries
Where: lobby. How you get it: wins only, plus the B3TT3R code (5). The +4 Batteries gamepass and VIP’s 1.25x Battery line apply to match wins. How you spend it: win-gated shops and upgrades that the sequel parks behind a slower currency so you cannot infinite-roll on losses.
If your farm is Battery-shaped, you must close the game. Do not “test Hard” when you needed five more Batteries for a shop.
Shells
Where: lobby, summer 2026. How you get it: event loop plus 5K_COMMUNITY (500) and 10K_GROUP (300). How you spend it: Ducky N’s Summer Market. Sea Shell Collector wants every bundle. Read the Summer Event spend order so you do not cosmetics-first a power season.
Shells are not Keybugs. A 500-Shell code will not summon a legendary unless a bundle says it converts.
XP and titles
XP is not a spend currency, but it gates titles and Nori:
- Level 3 — Worker Drone title
- Level 10 — Disassembly Drone title
- Level 25 — Solver Drone title
- Level 50 — Eldritch Drone title
- Level 100 — End of the Road, Nori, Keybugs
The 1.5x Experience pass and VIP’s 1.25x XP only help this track. They do not place towers.
Conversion cheatsheet
| Need | Earn | Do not |
|---|---|---|
| More placements in-match | Oil via eco | Redeem more codes |
| New drone / perk | Keybugs via rounds + codes | Farm Shells |
| Win shop | Batteries via wins + B3TT3R | Die on Hard for fun |
| Summer bundle | Shells via event + community codes | Spend Keybugs in Ducky N |
Print that table in your head before you queue. Then open the resource checklist and pick one row.
Gamepasses versus codes
Codes are flat and one-use. Gamepasses are multipliers on matches. VIP also adds teleports, a title, a chat tag, and faster sprint. None of it creates lobby Oil, because lobby Oil does not exist. If a vendor tries to sell you Oil, you are in the wrong game — or about to buy a script that will vanish on the next anticheat pass.
Keep this dictionary next to the players hub so the roster page stays about names, not wallets.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for codes, tiers, maps, and the Summer Event.
Why didn't my code give me Oil?
Codes never grant Oil. Oil only exists in a match from kills and waves. Spend Keybugs on eco units that generate it.
Do I get Batteries if I leave a winning match?
You need a win. Leaving early is a loss. Stay for the close if Batteries were the goal.
Is VIP worth it for currency?
Only as a small match multiplier plus QoL. Redeem codes and tier units first.
Will Shells convert after summer?
Unknown until Solver Games says so. Spend them before the 5 Sep Void window if the UI warns they expire.
